Sufficient Vitamins For The Day

It is common knowledge, that if you eat 3 healthy and balanced meals every day, you should get all of the necessary vitamins and minerals your body needs to function.

Even though we have varying nutritional needs, we know that we all need vitamins in order to live a healthy life and prevent diseases. Since caveman days, we have been eating vitamins and minerals. Today, we get a certain amount of the needed vitamins and minerals just by consuming foods and beverages.

The FDA has set the daily intake that we should take into our bodies to keep us healthy and give us energy. The only problem with going by this system completely is that it is set at the minimum that we need. We need to take into consideration our age, our current health, our body size and our activity output, such as what type of work we perform daily. We would also need to consider whether we work indoors or outdoors.

Other things to take into account are the polluted air, the water we drink, and the foods that we eat that are supposed to contain the quantity of vitamins and minerals that we should consume daily.

Add to this the fact that some of us do not like certain foods or that senior citizens and children cannot digest some of the foods. We have grown up with learned eating habits, such as the way our food was prepared, or even what was offered.

In days gone by, we were able to obtain fresh vegetables and fruits right from the ground or the tree. We did not use pesticides or herbicides to enable us to have a more abundant crop each year.

Now days, our food is grown in substandard soil (depleted from years of use), picked before they are fully ripened (in order to get them to the market on time), refrigerated, shipped numerous miles, refrigerated again and left sitting on the store shelf for hours if not days.

To add insult to all of this, we take it home and peel off the important skin (which contains vitamins and minerals) boil it in water that further removes vitamins and minerals. Have you ever noticed the orange colored water when you cook carrots? This is poured down the drain and does not end up in your stomach, where it can do you any good.

Or what is worse, our fast-paced life has caused us to eat fast foods either, at an outlet that may offer such foods as hamburgers and French fries or ready made or packaged meals. These foods are definitely, shortchanged in vitamins and minerals not to mention the fact that they were fried.

Okay, you say, but they add vitamins and minerals to our food to make it healthful for us to eat. The amount of vitamins or minerals that, are added to your food is akin to someone on the street slugging you, knocking you down and taking your wallet. Then they decide they feel sorry for you, so they take $2.00 out of your wallet and throw it on your chest before running off with the rest of it.

So what do we do? First, it is important to realize we should try to get many of our vitamins and minerals from good food, cooked properly or eaten raw. Then, considering that the food is deprived, we need to add a daily supplement of vitamins and minerals to our diet to compliment that which we have taken in. Keep in mind that the antioxidants play an important role in protecting your body from the daily onslaught of the pollution that we face.

No matter how careful we are, we cannot avoid all pollution. The car fumes we breathe, the water that has so much added to it to make it potable, and as I already pointed out, the food that is so lacking. Take that and add it to the daily stress and being overworked puts a huge burden on our bodies.
